Blencathra

The gentle undulated ridge of Blencathra, also known as 'Saddleback', rises in the distance beyond St. John's-in-the-Vale. The road to Matterdale, signposted here to the east, is an ancient coachroad that runs through spectacular scenery below the slopes of Clough Head. 'Unsuitable for motors' is an understatement.
